Growing Together Through God's Grace

About Prayer (November)

Ephesians 5:20  “Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our lord Jesus Christ”

November is here again and there couldn’t be a better year than this one, to thank our God for all the wonderful things he provides for us. I hear a lot of complaining of all the financial losses and the prices of our gas and heating, prices of food and clothing and all of the things we have to do without. But what do we still have to be grateful for?  It’s that time to remember everything we are truly blessed with.

Thanks giving did not begin with the Pilgrims. In the Old Testament there were many feast days that God’s chosen people, the Israelites, set aside for remembrance and thanksgiving. Many of these special days are still continued today such as Passover and Atonement.

Early New Testament Christians, as seen in the above Ephesians verse, were asked to give thanks always and to offer themselves, as seen in Romans 6:13.  We are asked to give thanks many times in the Bible.  In Psalm 106 we see we should thank the Lord because He is good and his love endures forever. Forever is still now. God still is worthy of our praise and thanksgiving.

An exercise we can do to brainstorm is, to write the Alphabet down and list things we are thankful to God for.  This could be done individually or work on it together as a family. See how many things you can list for each letter (I gave you some examples) and see what ideas you may have for Q and/or X. Let me know how you do!!
